SUMMER IN THE JIZERA MOUNTAINS

The Jizera Mountains are the northernmost mountain range in the Czech Republic. Their eastern part extends into Poland, where they merge with the Krkonoše Mountains. The Jizera Mountains attract visitors all year round – hikers, cyclists, and families who come for discovery, relaxation, and fun. In summer, you can enjoy a wide range of cultural and sports activities, such as visiting Frýdlant Castle, Libverda Spa, the Jizerka mountain village, or the famous lookout towers Štěpánka and Královka, among many others.

In the immediate surroundings, you’ll find mini golf, tennis courts, a city stadium, and a network of hiking and cycling trails leading into the Jizera and Krkonoše Mountains.

Špičák above Tanvald is a well-known ski resort, but also home to one of the iconic lookout towers of the Jizera Mountains. The peak of Špičák is a favourite destination for family hikes.

Špička Lookout Tower (Malý Špičák)

The Špička Tower on Malý Špičák is a unique lookout point of the Jizera Mountains. Built above the rocky cliffs of Malý Špičák, it pays tribute to the historic bobsleigh and sled track that once started right beneath the rocks.

Terezínka Viewpoint

The Terezínka viewpoint offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Jizera Mountains. It’s easily accessible from Tanvald via the red-marked tourist trail. The stone observation platform, originally built in the 19th century, underwent reconstruction in 2014.

Kořenov Engine Shed (Výtopna)

Built in 1903, the Kořenov engine shed was part of the technical facilities of the cog railway connecting Tanvald, Kořenov, and Hirschberg (today Jelenia Góra, Poland). It remains an impressive monument of early mountain railway engineering.

Light Fortification Museum “Na Pomezí” (Kořenov)

This small museum presents the history of fortifications built along the border between the Jizera and Krkonoše Mountains. The interior is partially restored to its September 1938 condition and equipped with period military materials and exhibits.
